How ACT Works

Acceptance Commitment Therapy aims to help with acceptance of difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them. ACT centers on aligning behavior with personal values to create a purposeful life, a process in which mindfulness plays a pivotal role.

ACT helps reduce the emotional distress often associated with tinnitus. It encourages individuals to accept the condition while redirecting their energy toward enjoying life, a shift that naturally promotes habituation.

The approach centers on six core principles: acceptance, defusion, self as context, committed action, values and contact with the present moment.

Ultimately, ACT lowers anxiety and frustration, thereby increasing the likelihood of habituation and improving overall quality of life.
